Home Sweet Home (at least for 18 months)

I realize I should have posted this picture when we first got here but I kept forgetting to take one until we were already upstairs. The stairs are a bugger after a long day and I would really have to talk myself into making an extra trip. This is the Martin Harris home. We live on the second floor. The far two front right windows are our living room. The lower roof over the door to the right is our bedroom. We have two windows there too but they are on the side and you can't see them in this photo. The house has 3 apartments all told and we are in the medium sized one. We love our little place, it is very comfy and we already consider it home. There is a guest room on the first floor to the left of the front door that we can sign up for and have people stay with us. Keep that in mind if you decide to come this way. No hotel bill!

These two signs are in front of the house. Tours used to be given here but since Martin Harris never lived in the house as it is today they stopped those years ago. It does have the original foundation though and according to a book I just read about the place Joseph Smith Sr. and Hyrum Smith were the ones who constructed it. Sis. Frost and I went to the basement to touch the rocks.
The two upper windows on the far right below the chimney are our bedroom windows. The roof is all angled in our bedroom as it was made from the attic. It is a very large room and we like it. I read in a book that the stone construction was unique to some English builders and it was a bit of a secret as to how it was done. Apparently this construction was found in England and the ancient Roman cities. The method died out with those builders. If you drive around the area you can see several more structures like this although  this is probably the best preserved and most beautiful. The walls are 26 inches thick at the base and the morter work is really amazing.
This is another sign  out by the road in front of the home.
Here is the office we meet in every morning. This is actually the secretary's space and we have taken it all apart. We repainted it and 3 other rooms. It is getting new carpet today. Bill built a wall where this counter is. I will post an after picture next week when it is all done. We have worked on it all week.
This is my wonderful work buddy Sister Frost. We had to water some new plants up on the Hill and to do this we had to truck the water up there as you see below.
OOf

We have enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the past week. This was in the morning. Bill must have taken it because I have no recollection of this. Since I am not truly a morning person I would never have thought of it.
Sis. Frost and I had another job at the Young Farm to get these steps ready for winter. They really needed a new coat of paint and now look so much better. We are wondering if the Missionary couple who lives here have noticed since they enter from the back as a rule.

You can see the bus and a bunch of people through my blinds.
When we first moved here our mission president told us that we will be living in a sort of fish bowl. Seeing as this property is historical to the church tons of people come to look at it at all times of the day. Since I was home today I saw a bus load get out and take lots of pictures. I decided to take a picture of all of them taking pictures of me, though I don't think anyone knew I was there. I was very stealth. It's a bit weird having people mill about the place you live and it made me laugh. Sometimes I will go and talk to folks but today I was in my pj's because I caught a bad cold and have rested all day so I didn't go out. It's fun to find out where everyone is from and they usually have a lot of questions some of which I can answer. One day I was bringing in groceries and a guy offered to carry them up for me if he could see the inside. I was nearly persuaded but thought I'd better not start a precedent as this is not really a tour place for the inside. Now if any of you blog readers come here that's another story. I will let you carry the groceries and have a tour too. :)
