February Freeze

Hello everyone, more pictures for you from snowy NY
This is that actual letter I wrote about in your last email. This is Amos' actual writing, the text of which is in your last letter.
We celebrated my mothers 85th birthday on January 9th. That's my brother Mike next to her.
Yep, even out here on our mission Bill was able to find and old car.
Our little Branch has teamed up with 6 other Hornell churches of different denominations to provide Sunday meals for the Community. We take turns about once a month cooking and serving at the Presbyterian church. They have a really nice kitchen and eating area where people come. Our 1st turn  we only served about 8 people but today we had another turn and there were 46 served so word is getting out. Sarah made Bill and I these cute aprons with a missionary badge on the front. Everyone really liked them.
Here we are working hard on cutting up turkey.
These two sister missionaries have served with us in the Hornell branch. They are so cute. Sister Locher is from Switzerland and has a cute German accent. Sis Hunter is from Utah. We just love these two. They were both just transferred so we won't see them again until they turn up back at the sites.
Our stuffed mattresses. This job took the two of us many hours to complete as there are 13 beds at different locations. Some were just pinned shut so we took them and dumped the old straw in the field. But some were sewn so we had to take them back to the shop to cut them open first. We laundered all the ticking and Sis. Frost had to make a new one since the mice had chewed it so badly.

Putting them back was also a challenge as some we filled too much and had to get some peanuts back out. As you can see we were a bit messy. It took 8 GIANT bags of packing peanuts to complete our task. And I mean Giant! They were about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide.

I think this was in the top floor of the Smith log cabin.
Yes, this is our stuck vehicle. I have no further comment on all of this. My hip is still not happy with me.

You can't quite see Bill's grin but believe me it was there. The snow plowing expert.
 Lots of work to do.

It still is the tundra out there but pretty I have to admit. The snow literally glistened this morning.

Bill has continued working on a wooden boat model that he has owned for 30 years. He had it shipped up to us and is continuing to work on it. A good activity for the cold evenings after work. I warned him if it was not complete by the time we finished our mission it was not coming home with us. After 30 years I am tired of storing the unfinished thing.

There are icicles everywhere around here. These were some particularly large ones hanging off the wood shop.
And lastly, we found this yummy looking recipe so my mom decided to get the ingredients and I told her I would make it. It's a coconut/pecan Italian cream cake. The icing is cream cheese. Boy was it good. Took a bit to make it but well worth the effort. We decided we could eat the frosting on shingles it was that good.  So, until next time. Go eat some cake!

  1. As a participant in the eating of the above cake. Absolutely positively delicious!!! They ain't seen nothing yet where icicles are concerned, and Bill is going to get more experience with the plow tomorrow I think.
