Pottery 101

Making clay while the sun shines. Here's Judy and I sitting at our wheels. There are 8 students in the nicely small class. Gives us a good bit of time for one on one instruction which we sometimes desperately need. Our teacher is very good and we like her a lot. We are starting to get the hang of things and it is pretty fun to see a pot come out of a lump of clay.
I am working on finishing a pot to get it ready to be fired for the 1st time. It is upsidedown on the wheel. There are two pots in the foreground ready for me to finish as well. After they are bisqued we will glaze them and they will get fired again.
I am centering a lump of clay and Judy is turning one.
I had to turn mine back into a lump and here is one Judy finished turning. Nothing like playing in the dirt. Clean up takes awhile but I am used to that from all my baking experience. At least at pottery class it is expected and no one notices what a mess you are.

  1. What fun to make a mess and not have to clean it up afterward. That is one mess I have alway wanted to try--who knows some day I just might get my turn. Have fun. Love to Judy too. Gram.

  2. I guess I wasn't very clear - we get to make the mess AND clean it up. It takes a good 20 minutes to get ready and go home.

  4. When do we get to see a large curved vase? It does look like your having fun. I'm still in for the cross stitch instead. Love always.
