Major projects

Got these backwards. This is the Alexander Cir house before. Next is after except the windows are not in yet and some other things. See a later post for the newest and best version of the outside.

These two are the before and after of the garage apartment. Lookin good eh?

This is a before of the duplex.
About a year and a half ago Bill and I decided to buy a couple rentals. We got two at the auction in April 2009, a duplex and a single family home with a garage apartment detached out back. We thought we would have them both done in a year. It is now Nov of 2010 and even though our time table is shot to heck we are happy to report that the duplex is completed and rented. The house garage apartment is done and the exterior of the house is completed. Since that time much has changed. We have now pretty much decided that we like the house so much, we would like to move into it. What are we thinking? Anyway, the house is completely gutted inside so it makes for a clean palette. Kind of exciting actually.

We decided to start with the duplex seeing as there were already two renters in them. Needless to say, the duplex was a disaster, both sides! The whole thing needed to be redone. New electric, heat and air, new plumbing, new windows and doors, kitchens, floors, paint, roof, decks. Nearly everything except the exterior walls and the interior walls. All that needed repainting as well. Needless to say, the renovations took an entire year; made longer because we had to work around the people living there. Most of you already know all the stories associated with THAT project. Suffice it to say, it was an arduous task to say the least.

To the right is the duplex after it's all done.
It turned out great and we have two good renters as I speak.
We have enlisted nearly everyone to help with one thing or another. Lee and Sarah and Stratton have all had a hand and Adam has been a great sport in helping Bill with many many things. Even my mom has helped me strip a door in the house and Steve gave Bill a hand with the windows on the house. Steve was also the brains of a major improvement in the house interior. More on that later. So it has been quite a family affair. Even Judy and Jeff have leant a hand and the Futral's brought us lunch one day. What would we do without all of you! Your moral support and refrain from publicly raising your eyebrows at us has been most appreciated as well. Stay turned for updated photos of the progress inside of the little house.

  2. Well well. Another place to put my two cents in. And yes although I pretty much agree with you I do raise my eyebrows when I think of the project. Way more than I could ever even hope to think of doing. Glad to have you here and please at least stay somewhere between Loren and Anna. Ben and Ashley are a little too low on the ladder lately. (I know their busy it just is always fun to see new pics) Can't wait to see what you come up with. Love always.
